Hi, I’m Rachael Koch, and I run Author Apprentice. I am the author-illustrator of a self-published picture book, have had children’s poetry published on the Australian Children’s Poetry blog and pending publication in The School Magazine and am actively submitting manuscripts to traditional publishers. I have a BA/BSc from The University of Melbourne, majoring in Creative Writing, and I’m a committee member for SCBWI Tasmania.
To be 100% upfront, that is what I am: an apprentice still learning my craft and my industry.
I don’t have it all figured out, and I’m beginning to think ‘having it figured out’ may be the biggest hoax of adulthood. Every time I think I’ve got it figured out, I learn better very shortly afterwards. So instead I am choosing to embrace the journey, to promise to learn continuously, to get back up from the knocks, to celebrate the wins, and above all, to learn continuously.
Author Apprentice is my attempt to share those knocks, wins and how-tos with you. I firmly believe that a rising tide lifts all ships, and I hope some of what I have to share is useful to you on your own journey, in your own apprenticeship.
